Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian Protests as Organizers Promise to Keep Protesting
A multitude gathered in various Australian cities at pro-Palestinian protests, with organizers promising to persist in activism after a truce agreement negotiated by the former US president in Gaza showed early signs of stability.
Sydney March Draws Large Crowd
In the harbor city, the Palestine Action Group announced a crowd of 30,000 had protested from the public gardens to another city park in the central business district after a scheduled protest to the Opera House was banned by the state judicial body recently.
Law enforcement assessed eight thousand participants attended the local rally, with a representative saying there had been "minimal disturbances".
Nationwide Demonstrations Commemorate Date
Protests were also organized in Victoria's capital, Brisbane and Perth on the day of protest to mark 24 months of conflict after militant actions on 7 October 2023 resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in Israel.
"In terms of the movement, we'll definitely persist to protest for a free Palestine... for local governance, for aid to be allowed in and for locals to reconstruct their homes," commented an activist.
Varied Responses to Peace Deal
Various participants shared confidence that the agreement could establish stability. Several expressed concerns of American participation and encouraged participants to continue urging the national authorities to apply measures and end the trade in military goods.
One protester, a Palestinian Australian based in Australia, shared he hoped the arrangement could permit him to assist his senior relative, who is currently in the region without access to medical care, to his current home, and to locate and inter his family members, who have been lost contact in 2023.
Jewish Community Organizes Memorial
In another development, numerous people participated in a Jewish memorial service on Sunday night in eastern Sydney to remember the occasion of the October attacks. A participant, the brother of Galit Carbone, an local resident who was killed during the attacks, was planned to address.
There were wishes for quick release of those still detained in the territory and those killed on 7 October. The Israeli ambassador, the official, paid tribute to the resolve of survivors. The audience expressed disapproval when he spoke about the Australian prime minister and the foreign minister.

Leadership Remarks
The political representative the legislator addressed participants: "We cannot let a reality where the former president decides the future of the Palestinian people to be the type of reality we accept."
Another organiser who filed the initial request to protest at the iconic venue asserted that the participants could have peacefully gone to the renowned coastal site. The senior police representative had previously told the judicial body that the plan had "disaster written all over it".
The coordinator stated at the event: "Whenever the authorities try to restrict our rallies or take us to the supreme court, it wakes up a lot of people... to the importance of gathering and stand up against it."
