Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Team Versus India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series facing India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected selection.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international side after scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

There have been indications of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a Test return as Australia seek a solution to their top-order woes.

Bowling Returns and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
