Public alerts are active as the severe weather system travels over the UK, bringing intense precipitation and winds of up to 160 km/h in vulnerable regions.

An Amber weather alert, warning that projectile objects could pose a risk to life, has been activated for large parts of the northern territory and the north of Scotland.

In Glasgow, a derelict building fell due to strong gusts, while wind speeds of 102mph were observed on the isle of Tiree, off Scotland's west coast.

Energy disruptions have been experienced in the Highlands and Northern Ireland following travel suspensions and the shutdown of numerous educational institutions.

Approximately 50,000 buildings have been experiencing outages, according to utility companies.

The entire rail network in the region have shut down, while train operators stated that all services out of Glasgow Central have been halted until at least 14:00 on Saturday.

Railway teams said they were attempting to remove collapsed branches on lines across the region.

In the Scottish county, about a dozen passengers were stranded on a rail service that hit a tree on the line.

The evening departure from Inverurie to Aberdeen was running with reduced speed limits enacted ahead of the severe weather. There were no injuries.

Various aircraft journeys and boat routes have been cancelled, while some road bridges are either blocked or have restrictions on high-sided vehicles.

In the city center, part of the Broomielaw was blocked off when a derelict building crumbled at about 18:00 on Friday.

A extended advisory for winds up to 60mph - and 70mph in open spots - applies to all of the country and reaches the north of England and parts of the Welsh region until late Saturday.

  • The following train services are cancelled from the evening: Crianlarich - Oban, Inverness – Kyle of Lochalsh, Perth – Inverness.
  • All departures from the central station have been cancelled
  • Other routes may also be disrupted and speed restrictions will be active from the evening.
  • Vehicles at the Rest and Be Thankful in the region has been diverted onto the Old Military Road. Transport officials said they were monitoring conditions.
  • Delays and cancellations are expected on ferry networks along the west coast. Travelers have been advised to review the latest information.
  • Various maritime journeys between Cairnryan and Northern Ireland have been cancelled since 12:00.
  • Forth Road Bridge has closed to all traffic, while other bridges may have restrictions on high-sided vehicles.

Several maritime routes between Cairnryan, in Dumfries and Galloway, and the territory were halted from midday.

Commuters are advised to consult ferry operators for the latest information, with freight drivers urged to get in touch with port authorities for further details.

Transport officials stated: "We are urging people planning to travel on various transport modes to get in touch with providers to find out if their journey is disrupted."

"Motorists will face challenging road situations, so it's essential people plan ahead if they have to travel to determine if their route is impacted by the storm."

Event planners said the powerful gusts and downpours would present a hazard of projectiles for the competitions, which also featured a youth race.
